Abstract
In this study, we sought to find out the effects of participation in Rehabilitation program on successful aging. The target wasthe elderly of 60 year-old or older living in the Daegu and Gyoungbook regions. A pilot survey was performed on 120 elderly people who were participating in Rehabilitation program to examine the validity of the survey content, after which the questions were restructured and then finally modified and supplemented. The data collection was performed after the researcher and ten research assistants who were trained beforehand met personally with the elderly and explained to them the purpose of the study. When the elderly could answer the questions on their own, they wrote down the answers themselves, but many of the elderly had poor eyesight for reading and some were illiterate, so in these cases the researcher and the research assistants dictated the questions to them and recorded their answers. In this way 810 elderly people were questioned, of which 43 had incomplete or untrustworthy responses, and the remaining 767 questionaries were used as the data for final analysis, and the summary is as below. It was found that the satisfaction level with the Rehabilitation program has direct effect on the life change and the elderly``s successful aging. The higher the elderly``s satisfaction level with their Rehabilitation program was, the more strongly they displayed positive life changes and successful aging. After participating in Rehabilitation program, the life changes had direct effect on successful aging so that the positive changes in one``s life affected his successful aging. As for the variables that affect the life change and successful aging after participation in Rehabilitation program, the satisfaction level with the program had valid effect as both direct and indirect effects, while the life change had positive effect on the elderly``s successful aging only as a direct effect. As the main purpose of this study, it was found that the elderly participating in Rehabilitation program had high number for successful aging.
